Is it obvious I'm a bit skeptical? Awkward moment aside, I'm actually really excited about this. And thankfully, you wont have to hear (read???) me ramble on about nothing in particular....sounds way more appealing now right? That being said...I'm about to ramble on for a moment. Fair warning.
I'm a dog mom living in VA looking for the spot to finally call home. My other half and I have two pups (you'll see A LOT of them), and we like to travel. We've done a few camps and hikes with our pups before (and they absolutely love it!), and found ourselves looking to find longer hikes. Insert this new crazy idea! Just before we move into our house (like a few years from now), we plan to thru hike the Appalachian Trail! We came to this decision after a lot talking, weighing the pros and cons of bringing the pups, the risks, and really just understanding that something like this was going to be life changing. Granted, we are planning for this far enough ( I hope) in advance so we will be able to enjoy our "pack bonding" experience; but I don't think it hurts to be prepared as much as possible.
So now we have some down time in between...actually, I really shouldn't say that its down time, more of our training/trial period. I'm not going to lie...I can be a serious couch potato sometimes. However, this is a goal that we set for ourselves and I'm super stoked. I'm not a gym goer, but I have no problems packing up the pups and taking a long walk in the park. So that's what we've been doing everyday. I toss in some yoga, and three times a week carry a dummy pack on one of many walks. I'm determined, and the dogs love all the time outside. Now we are tossing in some 3-5 day hikes. I know...I sound like a broken record, but I'm excited.
I hope this blog turns into our digital photo album of our journey. I hope you get the same enjoyment out of looking at these memories, as we did making them. I hope to connect with others who share the same passion as we do...our pack and this amazing journey called life and its natural wonders it provides.
